American Netflix

With the helpful tips from online forums I managed to sign up for the American version of Netflix and cancelled my subscription to the Canadian version. So much more content than up here, I’m glad I ditched cable tv. I have unlimited instant streaming of HD movies and television shows than I can handle. If I ever have to watch a current tv episode I’ll just watch it on the laptop and connect it to the tv.

In order to sign up for the US Netflix you have to have their website see your ip coming from the US so you have a few choices. Either run a program to hide your ip (Anchor Free Hotspot Shield) which is insanely slow with ads popping up eveywhere or sign up for a DNS service like usvideo.ca. For these guys you just pay $4/month and they let you use their DNS server that you type in your network setting on whatever device you’re using and you’re American. Your ip is still your same old Canadian one but all traffic looks like it’s coming from the US servers.

Now when you go to Netflix.com it looks like you’re from their country and are able to sign up. There’s a catch, you need a credit card with an American Address. Luckily there’s virtual credit card services like Paypal that let you add funds to the card and you can use that to pay. EntroPay is another one.
