Day off

Today was a good day. It was sunny and I had the day off again.

I bbq’d, walked my dog around, laid in the sun and got a slight tan on my face before I do nightshifts and turn all zombie. Then I went out and met someone with a new dog and let them play, run rampid and do all kinds of silly stuff. She’s all tired.

Tomorrow I think I’ll wash my car.

Rowing machine

I just used my rowing machine for the first time in a long while and it felt great.
It makes me wonder why I don’t make a regular routine for that, although my shift work makes any regular routine difficult.

Abby got all excited while I was rowing, she liked all the swishing of water and the moving parts.

Stagg chilli

I recommend the Stagg chili. I usually make my own and stay away from canned meats because they probably put the ass end of the cow in there. It’s really good though – thick, meaty and has pizzazz. I suppose it’s all they do, do they’re allowed to do it well.

Holy crap it’s hot, it’s burning my mouth.

Cereal, now with yogurt

There are some cereals out now that have yogurt pieces in them and they basically look like pink or white chocolate chips. Don’t try them, it’s like eating little flavored wax chunks in your cereal.

Earthquake

I live in Ottawa and I just felt a small earthquake. I thought it was a building tremor that was maybe caused from the large air conditioners and generators upstairs but someone across town called in asking if we felt that. Weird.

OTTAWA (CP) — A “moderate” earthquake shook eastern Ontario and western Quebec Friday night, with tremors shaking the ground under the shadow of the Peace Tower and reports of the quake being felt as far away as Montreal. Sylvia Hayek, seismologist for Natural Resources Canada, said the earthquake, which struck around 8:39 p.m. EDT, measured a magnitude 4.5, but wasn’t strong enough to cause major damage.

“It’s a moderate earthquake, so we wouldn’t expect any damage,” Hayek said late Friday.

The quake was centred north of Thurso, Que., about 45 kilometres east-northeast of Ottawa, said John Adams, a seismologist with Natural Resources Canada.

New video cables

I just got some new Monster Cables (MV3CV) to hook up to my tv. Wires have been getting crazy lately. These things are just 1 meter long and go for $140 at Futureshop.ca.

Check out these retarded specs:

  • High resolution component video cable for the best possible picture.
  • Nitrogen injected cellular dielectric for low attenuation and high velocity signal transfer.
  • Metal—to—metal double shield for maximum rejection of RFI and EMI.
  • 24k gold contact RCA connectors for superior conductivity.

Luckily I got them for next to nothing on ebay.
I have discovered that they do make a difference. I had a cheaper version from Radioshack and there were interference lines going up and down the screen which are now gone.

    New York trip

I went to New York City this weekend.

We took the train from Connecticut for about an hour and a half to Grand Central station in Manhattan at around 10am.
I got to ride through and take a picture of Harlem. It’s pretty sketchy there.

We took a subway and went street level to check out the outside of the Empire State building and have a hotdog. They NY hotdogs I’ve always heard about where nothing special, just a steamed hotdog with normal bun and optional sweet mustard and onions. I was imagining some huge bbq’d thing with sauerkraut or something.

Then we went to Rockefeller Center (no tree, just a small rink). I imagined a much larger rink !We saw some cathedral and the trump tower. We walked up to the edge of Central Park and took a picture of some green, some trees and a horse.

We went to Chinatown and the Italian place and a lot of people tried to see us purses. It’s weird, they wont look at you when you walk by but they say under their breath “purses purses…”. We went to a Chinese place and I had some pork stuff on rice and Diana had foe in a bowl the size of a sink. For dessert we went to Italy area and had fancy desserts.

We got on the subway to the ferry to float last the statue of liberty. It was dark out so I just got a picture of blackness with snowflakes reflecting off the camera flash. I saw the barely lit up thing though.

We went and walked on the street-level (I forget where) to see the nightlife and all the lit up streets.

We left around 8pm for the train home before the big storm hit.

The drive home was horrible. In Connecticut there was so much blowing snow I couldn’t see the road. I saw about 20 people in the ditch and actually saw about 5 go off the road. After I left Connecticut it was pretty smooth sailing, the storm was pretty southern.
